SEO Toy Review Christmas Special 2017

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you're 2017 wraps up nicely as we finish out the holiday season. If you didn't get a chance to check out our Christmas Special this year check it out below. The Screenwave Media group has grown and this year we have a bunch of extra guest. I had so much fun filming it live,  but for rebroadcast we have it broken down into smaller chucks. I even fixed a few issues with the audio getting out of sync on the live show.

Netflix: The Toys that Made Us

I watched the first four episodes of The Toys that Made Us from Netflix. Not a bad series. I feel like it was made for a general audience, but there are a few tid-bits in there for die-hard toy collectors as well. Check out the video review below. It may contain some "spoilers" for the series but it's history so I don't know if there is such a thing.

Custom Arctic GI Joe Figures

I posted about these Custom Arctic GI Joe figures several years ago here on Action Figure Adventures. Recently they got brought up in a discussion thread on a Facebook Group so I put together a video about them.Arctic Stalker, Grand Slam, Footloose, Beach Head, and Snake Eyes. I really like how these guys turned out and I was neat to see someone else sharing my work on the GI Joe group.

Retro Con 2017 Panel: The Breaux Show & SEO Toy Review

One of my personal highlights from Retro Con was getting to co-host a panel with Mike Breaux from the Breaux Show. Mike live broadcast (audio only) the first portion of our panel together. It was so much fun! The second half involved questions and answers from the crowd. We didn't broadcast that portion. Sorry about the audio quality, it's hard recording something like this at a convention. Mike and I had a lot of fun, so we may try to do it again sometime. We start by talking about the stop motion commercial I made for Retro Con, then we talked about Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and finally the Breaux Show Exclusive Lego set for Retro Con.

Sleepy Hollow Hayride - Newtown, PA

It's October... and so warm it almost doesn't feel like Halloween time. As I have for the past several years, each weekend I help put on a show for people in the Halloween spirit at Sleepy Hollow Hayride in Newtown, PA. I help manage the zombies, witches, and ghouls that haunt the hayride and field of fright.

Henrietta, the fire breathing dragon has been one of my favorite scenes on the hayride for my entire time at Sleepy Hollow. This year she is terrorizing a hayride wagon instead of the a school bus like she did in the past. Henrietta is unique to Sleepy Hollow, and enormous... plus did I mention she breaths fire?!?!

One of the newer characters to haunt Newtown is this awesome specter. He's a hit even with the other terrors of the farm. Here the specter poses for a photo with some of the other scarers.

I was having fun trying to photograph the fire twirler. I really like how this photo turned out. It's hard to balance the motion blur with the shutter speed needed to capture enough light. I think it turned out pretty well.

Power Rangers Blue Ranger & Zord - SDDC The Loyal Subjects

I just got my newest shipment in from the Loyal Subjects Super Double Diamond Club. Like every installment we got another translucent action vinyl figure. I really wish instead of saying you'd get exclusive action vinyl figures by joining the SDDC they would have said you'll get exclusive translucent figures. Every figure is the same gimmick and I'm tired of it. Can't get get Glow in the Dark or a special paint scheme. What a waist of money. I don't even think these figures display nice in or out of the package.

Star Wars Force Friday the Last Jedi Toy Hunt

It's Force Friday! Did you go out at Midnight looking for new Star Wars toys? Why not? I checked out Toys R Us and Target to see what kind of fun Star Wars toys I could find. I felt like this Force Friday was basically an adult collector event for the Black Series. I didn't see as many young people looking for Lego and standard action figures as I did for the Force Awakens.

Hasbro/IDW Revolution SDCC 2017 Box Set

Revolution was a world building event comic book series published by IDW that combined several Hasbro properties. As Hasbro works towards building a Cinematic Universe this years SDCC Exclusive was a Revolution Box Set containing Transformer, GI Joe, Action Man, MASK, Visionaries, ROM and Micronauts action figures. This is a pretty fun set. I don't know how great the combined movie universe will be, but bring on the toys!

Paw Patrol Roll Patrol Road Tour

I know Paw Patrol is geared at a very different audience than this blog usually attracts, but as a kid I remember meeting characters at malls and grand openings of restaurants. I always thought that kind of stuff was really cool. Over the weekend I attended a the Paw Patrol Roll Patrol Road Tour, a huge event put on by Spin Master Toys. I went to the Road Tour with some friends and family and just had a really good time. I was really impressed with the detail that went into designing all the attractions. I think the Paw Patrol Roll Patrol Road Tour is this generations Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Coming Out of their Shells Tour or He-Man Power Tour. Just a really fun way for kids to experience their favorite tv/toy characters come to life.

NJCC Haul - NECA Toys Warehouse Overstock Sale

Wow, I got a great deal on a ton of NECA action figures at NJCC last weekend. The New Jersey Collector's Convention did something a little different this time with Boss Fight Studios showing off their Bucky O'Hare toys and NECA holding a warehouse overstock sale.

Sunday, August 13, 2017

Bucky O'Hare - Boss Fight Studios

Bucky O'Hare is the fearless Captain of the space ship the Righteous Indignation. Bucky O' Hare and his crew are getting all new action figures from Boss Fight Studios. These figures are awesome modern updates to the original Hasbro figures. Wave One contains Bucky O'Hare and Jenny. Wave Two will include repaints, Stealth Mission Bucky and Astral Projection Jenny. Wave 3 will include Deadeye Duck and another figure. Boss Fight Studios hinted that the evil Toad Stormtrooper will be coming eventually at their event at the New Jersey Collectors Convention. It was great getting to talk with the people from Boss Fight Studios about their new Bucky O'Hare figures at NJCC.

NECA SDCC Exclusive Ninja Turtles

Check it out, San Diego Comic Con Exclusive Ninja Turtles by NECA Toys. These SDCC Exclusive Ninja Turtles are some of the best "cartoon" Ninja Turtles ever made. What a great set! I would have loved these figures as a kid. Can't wait to review the bad guys from this set.

Wednesday, August 2, 2017

Marvel Legends Iceman - X-Men Wave

Today we are reviewing a Marvel Legends figure of Iceman. He's my favorite X-Men, but this action figure is only okay. Nothing really wrong with him, but also nothing real interesting. I would have liked to have seen him come with "energy" effects. Iceman does come with an arm to the build-a-figure Juggernaut.

Vintage GI Joe Collection Sort

Paul and I filmed this Vintage GI Joe Collection Sort. A co-worker game me this box from her attic full of her son's toys from the 80's. This collection includes a MOBAT, VAMP, Hiss and more. There are also some figures, but most of them had broken rubber bands.

Dollar General Ninja Turtles 2- Packs

These 2" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles started showing up at Dollar General a little while back. I think about ten years ago I bought some of these carded in single packs. Now they are offered in 2-packs with weapons. They offer four sets: Michelangelo & Casey Jones, Raphael & Foot Soldier, Leonardo & Splinter, and Donatello & Shredder. They are fun sets and I really enjoy them with their little accessories. I previously posted about the older (but almost identical figures) from Dollar General here on Action Figure Adventures.

Marvel Legends Edge of Spider-Verse: Ben Reilly Spider-Man

Today we are taking a look at a Marvel Legends figure based on the Ben Reilly Spider-Man. I was a big fan of this costume in the 90's and I'm happy to have this Edge of Spider-Verse Spider-Man figure.

I did this drawing of the Ben Reilly Spider-Man fighting Sandman back in 1996! So crazy.

Too Many Games is Next Weekend!

Too Many Games is a big three day video game convention that happens every year in Oaks Pennsylvania. The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center is were it all happens, and the con is next weekend! I work at Registration every year making sure the guest and attendees get checked in to the show. I'm excited to see some of my convention friends who work the show and also some of the guest who I am friends with as well.

James the AVGN with props from his show.
James Rolfe, the Angry Video Game Nerd, and Mike Matei will be there. Both of these guys are really cool and will be attending. Mike has been super cool about working with me once in a while to produce some videos for SEO Toy Review.

The Game Chasers, Billy and Jay will be at Too Many Games again. Two good old boys from Texas looking for deals on retro video games. They are also both avid toy collectors and so it's fun to talk to them. They do a side series on their channel called the Toy Chasers.

8-Bit Eric, who has also been super helpful on the youtube front will be there as well. At first I knew about Eric because he appeared on the Game Chasers channel. In real life, I've hung out with Eric quite a bit. He's really funny.

Pixel Dan, my favorite toy youtuber is coming back to Too Many Games for the second year in a row. Last year his panel was all about weird forgotten toy lines like Rock Lords and Stone Protectors. It was a lot of fun. I think this year he is previewing an episode from his second season of "From Plastic to Pixels", where he plays video games based on toy lines with fellow youtuber the Gaming Historian. Dan and I are planning to try to shoot a little video again this year at the con.

This is not an exhaustive list of everyone coming to the con. I know James from Epic Game Music will be there and Pat the NES Punk will be there. Check out the Too Many Games website for more details. Hopefully I'll see some of you there!

Pixel Dan doing is Pixel Dan thing at Too Many Games last year.

Hasbro Army Ants (1987) Home Movie from 1999

Army Ants was a new take on "little plastic army men" by Hasbro in 1987. My best friend growing up had the entire collection. We played with them a lot. We would each pick figures from both sides and then act out huge ant wars. In 1999 (way before youtube) we started making a nostalgia tape about toys from our childhood. We didn't film very many "episodes", but I enjoy the ones we made. So in honor of my friend Derek's birthday I present our Army Ants video with a brief modern into.

1985 Imperial Godzilla & King Kong

I made a special video about the 1985 Imperial Godzilla & King Kong figures I got for my 7th birthday. I posted this video to youtube, but forgot to blog about in on my birthday! So anyway here's my birthday video a week late. Godzilla was a big part of my childhood and I really loved these figures. I used to get a kick out of the fact that the 12" Imperial Godzilla was in the background of most episodes of the Roseanne sitcom in the 80's. Along with reviewing these figures I also talk about how this Godzilla figure has been important though out my life starting with some home video of me getting these figures and finishing off with some clips from a low budget video called Godzilla Flick my friends and I made at the end of high school.

Megatron's got an interesting color design on the front cover.

Batman 80's Coloring Book

Batman Coloring Book from the 80's. It doesn't have a specific title, so I call it The Sinister Night of the Batman. This is one of the only coloring books I had as a kid where I colored every page. I was a little older, and a big Batman fan so I tried to really take my time. I hope you enjoy it.

Fast & Furious Stunt Stars Hobbs & Navistar MXT

Time for some more Fast & Furious action. He's a fun video I shot using the Stunt Stars Hobbs & Navistar MXT. I like the little figures that come with these cars. They remind me of MASK, but they are actually smaller. I love that the Navistar MXT comes with a little action figure of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Walmart Blue Ranger Then & Now 2-Pack

Walmart Blue Ranger Then & Now 2-Pack includes a Mighty Morphin Blue Ranger and a 2017 Movie Blue Ranger. I really like these Mighty Morphin Power Ranger figures. The movie figures are exactly like the single card releases. MMPR Billy comes with his Blade Blaster in blaster modes and his Power Lance which comes in to pieces. The movie Billy comes with an effect that he can hold in his hand to look like he's punching.

Power Rangers 2017 Review

Here's my thoughts on the Power Rangers 2017 Movie. The review starts off spoiler free. Towards the end (I made it clear ahead of time) I do talk a little bit about Spoilers. Let me know down below if you checked out Power Rangers over the weekend.

Power Rangers Movie (2017)

I just saw Power Rangers this morning. I really, really enjoyed it. It's not cheesy like the original and that's okay. I did miss the rubber monster and Megazord suits, because I love that kind of movies. The CGI looked fine, but it's not really my thing. What they did best in this movie was to make you care about the Rangers. I think this film was a great start to a new Power Rangers movie series.

I plan to shoot a video so, keep an eye on SEO Toy Review for more thoughts. Let me know in the comments below what you thought of the movie, if you saw it?

Saturday, March 25, 2017

Today we look at three more ReAction figures by Funko based on the Nightmare Before Christmas. These are good looking figures, but are perhaps too well detailed to fit the ReAction vibe. Check out my video review for my thoughts on Oogie Boogie, Wolfman, and Clown with the Tear Away Face.

Flea Market Finds - Warhammer 40,000 (Games Workshop)

From Middle School through the part of College my group of best friends and I played Warhammer 40,000 all the time. Later girlfriends and stop motion animation would distract us from playing this Sci-Fi table top battle game. Each one of us had our own army of models and I LOVED painting and modifying the miniatures. Basically the only thing I did with my free time in High School was paint Warhammer models and make custom GIJoe figures. At the flea market one week a guy had a bunch of these models made by Games Workshop. He was asking someone else if they knew what they were. I chimed in and the guy asked me if I'd give him $20 for them. SOLD!

NJCC Toy Haul 3/12/17

New Jersey Collectors Convention (aka NJCC) just had their March show on 3/12/17 and it's time to check out my Haul. As usual my buddy, Nick, and I went to show in Cherry Hill and paid for early admission. We met up with Rose & Tony who run Retro Con as well as our friend Mike. We walked around the show several times and found lot of goodies. I picked up a bunch of Power Rangers items, some vintage GI Joe packaging, Marshal BraveStarr and a Real Ghostbuster figure. Check out the video below for all the details.

Top 100 Toy Blogs!?!?!?

So I got an email today informing me that Action Figure Adventures was named to a list of the Top 100 Toy Websites and Blogs for Kids, Parents & Toy Industry Pros. I'm blown away. This blog has done so much for me and been so rewarding over the years. To be put on a list like this and in the company of so many of these other sites I can't really express how it makes me feel. I'm very proud of the work I've put into this blog and it has led to other cool projects like SEO Toy Review on YouTube. I think that this award will also motivate me to produce more posts uniquely for the blog. As the work load for SEO has increased the number of blog posts have been reduced. I'm going to crack the whip and get Baby Skeletor back to work. It's time to get this blog back into shape.

DIY - Mini Figure Shelves

I love finding fun ways to display toys. Here is one solution I have to displaying mini figures. I hang California Job Cases on the wall and use them to show off fun figures. California Job Cases are draws used to hold metal type used on old fashion printing presses.

Flea Market No Finds

I went to the flea market this weekend. It was like 70's degrees yesterday, but after a storm last night we were back to winter temperature. I got excited when I found a table full of Power Rangers toys. Unfortunately the guy wouldn't sell anything individually. He wanted to sell everything as a lot. Clearly the guy bought it as a lot and wanted to flip it. He was asking me what the names of stuff was because he had no clue what he had. His lot price was to high to buy the whole thing an make any money getting rid of the stuff I already own. So I had to leave it there. The toys were in nice shape and he had a decent number of weapons all in a bag.

Lots of new Masters of the Universe repaints and Street Fighter II. The Loyal Subjects also had Thundercats and Mega Man Action Vinyls on display but they are waiting approval to be photographed.

Oh well, lets open them up and see who we found. He-Man and the Masters the Universe has always be a cartoon and toy line I've loved. These are some fun mini figures based on that series.

Got a box of Vintage Star Wars action figures from out of my co-workers attic. Ryan, Paul, and Kevin dig through the box to see which figures are here. Kenner Star Wars figures in this collection span all three movie toy-lines, but no Power of the Force figures here.

Star Wars Rebels Kanan Jarrus in Stormtrooper Dosguise

I take a look at Kanan Jarrus in Stormtrooper Disguise based on the Star Wars: Rebels cartoon show. This figure is based on a season two episode of Rebels, but can also double as a troop builder when you put the Stormtrooper helmet on Kanan.

Masters of the Universe Action Vinyl Blind Boxes

Time to open up some He-Man & the Masters of the Universe Action Vinyl Blind Boxes. These fun figures from the Loyal Subjects are based on the old He-Man figures and cartoon. I really enjoy these figures, but they are a little expensive to be sold as a blind box. I also have a bunch of fun Power Rangers Action Vinyls.

Alpha 5 - Power Rangers 2017 Movie Action Figure

The new Power Rangers 2017 movie is right around the corner and the action figures are starting to show up in stores. In this episode Alpha 5 and the Red Ranger have to battle the Black Knight while searching for more Power Rangers. I wonder what the personality of Alpha will be in the new movie. His voice will be provided by Bill Hader from Saturday Night Live in the film.

King Arthur & Hordak's Slime Pit

If you are a long time reader of Action Figure Adventures you probably know I'm a huge Masters of the Universe (He-Man) fan, but you might also know that I like a short lived cartoon and toy line called King Arthur and the Knights of Justice.

These two toy lines share an odd connection. Both toys were made by Mattel and on the back of the King Arthur packages the cross sell art shows Hordak's Slime Pit from Masters of the Universe was planned to be part of the King Arthur line. (No evidence can be found that it was produced.)

I don't know how closely Mattel worked with the creators of the cartoon, but it seems the cartoon came first and Mattel was hired to make the toys. The figures are all made in a similar style to the Master of the Universe figures and  the Boulder Basher features a recycled play feature from a Masters Toy. In the cross sell art the Slime Pit toy still features Hordak's face. While watching some episodes of the cartoon I saw the Slime Pit in an episode called Darren's Key. In the show it looks pretty much like the Masters toy, but Hordak's face was changed.

The fact that this toy that Mattel planned to recycle was featured in the show makes me think there was a lot more involvement from Mattel during the pre-production of the show. Perhaps the show producers came to Mattel with the concept and then Mattel came back with some mock-ups for the toys line. Then as the toys and cartoon moved forward both sides could incorporate what the other was doing.

The cartoon lasted two seasons and the toy line only had one wave of figures. I enjoyed the cartoon in the early 90's and since I found out about the toys I have been having fun collecting them. I wish both had lasted a little longer. Warlord Blackwing could have been a cool toy. Stridor and Night Stalker, the robotic horses from Masters of the Universe might have been interesting recycled toys for the Warlords.  For more posts on King Arthur and the Knights of Justice check out this post about Sir Darren and Valor and this post about some of the other figures..
